Our history
The Future Library non-profit organisation was established in 2011, addressing the call of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation to contribute to the development of a sustainable network of public & municipal libraries across Greece.
Throughout this journey (2011 - 2016) we have worked with 167 libraries and their local communities to co-develop new library spaces and services including children libraries, media labs for youth, programs and campaigns to promote reading and creativity.
Thanks to the support from the Global Libraries Initiative of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, through the INELI-Balkans program, we have expanded our reach beyond Greece to libraries in 11 countries from the Balkan region.
Future Library was commissioned for the utilization of the 2010 Access to Learning Award to design and develop innovative spaces and new services for the Veria Central Public Library.
Future Library has also received funding from the ICT-PSP and from the Creative Europe Programme of the European Commision aiming to contribute to Europeana and to develop a storytelling platform for refugees.
Today,
we continue our efforts with the valuable support from the Social & Cultural Affairs Welfare Foundation (Κ.Ι.Κ.Π.Ε.).
